It’s 115 degrees in the shade in Kid Turboni’s Borderland housing project – the summer’s biggest heatwave yet. There’s no end in sight. Tired of the heat’s foolishness, Kid and his best friend Billy set out to liberate their suffering people by stealing rain from Mother Nature just like their hero, fabled ex-tenant Smack Turkenson. But Kid has bigger problems than the heat. He misses his mom, his friend Kelly wants to be more than friends, he can’t get his rain dance right, and everyone’s expectations for him are mighty hard to manage. It all crashes together as the temperature climbs, making everyone ask: Can Kid Turboni bring the rain?

Using the time-honored device of a touring performing company, SOMOS Performance Group focuses on providing positive youth and family experiences for audiences and performers of diverse backgrounds and abilities in spaces throughout our community. Through these experiences we hope to expand the opportunity for our community to see themselves in and be a part of the performing arts. SOMOS is a culmination of years of wishing and conversations around bringing theater to a wider El Paso community. The style of this show and its themes perfectly represent all of the things we wanted our organization to embody: creativity, ingenuity, found and chosen family, adventure, love, friendship, and loyalty, celebrating childhood, and valuing different voices. It was very important to us that SOMOS showcase local artists and provide opportunities for them to push themselves in new directions professionally. Our appearance in the Jewel Box Series marks the El Paso premiere of Peter and the Starcatcher and we invite you to join in the magic of play and imagination. “To have faith is to have wings.”

SOMOS Performance Group is a registered 501c3 Non-Profit Organization. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram @somos.915. Join our email list.
