SOMOS Performance Group is excited to announce our next performance will be Kid Turboni Brings the Rain directed by Emma Leigh Montes. It’s 115 degrees in the shade in Kid Turboni’s Borderland housing project—the summer’s biggest heat wave yet, and there’s no end in sight. Tired of the heat’s foolishness, Kid and his best friend Billy set out to liberate their suffering people by stealing rain from Mother Nature just like their hero, fabled ex-tenant Smack Turkenson. But Kid has bigger problems than the heat. He misses his mom, his friend Kelly wants to be more than friends, he can’t get his rain dance right, and everyone’s expectations for him are mighty hard to manage. It all crashes together as the temperature climbs, making everyone ask—can Kid Turboni bring the rain?

A timeless masterpiece told in the spirit of La Frontera! This holiday ghost story is filled with thrills and chills to delight young and old alike. But more than a yuletide spectacle, this play is a tale of family, solitude, and redemption. By transplanting the familiar Dickens’ classic from Victorian England to the US/Mexican border, the story finds new life and cultural relevance. Written by UTEP professors Jay Stratton and Adriana Domínguez and directed Beth Leffler, this tale brings the Christmas spirit to El Paso.
SOMOS Performance Group held a Summer Pop-Up Theatre during June and July of 2025. Throughout this program participants learned theatre techniques from professional teaching artists to understand and hone their skills in character development, storylines, scripting, set design, choreography, makeup, and costuming. This event culminated with a free public performance at The El Paso Mexican American Cultural Center.
